One person\'s point of view after coming down from the Ivory Tower

The best woman for the job is a man

February 19th, 2008, 3:52 pm · 7 Comments · posted by eblog

Today we offer a heartfelt dedication to Mrs. Hillary Clinton: “I Am Woman,” by Helen Reddy.

***

Hillary Clinton stands a good chance to become this country’s first female president. If you think about it, however, people who really want a woman president because of the traditional characteristics women exemplify, their best bet might just be Barack Obama, and not Clinton.

Clinton is hardly the first woman to launch a serious campaign for the presidency. The first was Victoria Woodhull, more than 135 years ago, representing the Equal Rights Party. Margaret Chase Smith was the first to run in one of the major political parties, when she sought the Republican Party nomination in 1964. Shirley Chisholm was the first to win a major primary, capturing the New Jersey Democratic primary in 1972. Geraldine Ferraro made the final ticket as the vice-presidential nominee in 1984, and would have been the first in line to the presidency had she and Walter Mondale won the election. Other notable female candidates include the colorful Bella Abzug, Elizabeth Dole and Carol Mosely Braun.

It can be said, then, that Clinton simply is the one who is taking the inevitable next step, winning substantial votes and possibly capturing the Democratic Party nomination this year.

That’s a good thing, especially since many of her supporters insist that her gender has nothing to do with their belief that she’s the current candidate who would make the best president for at least the next four years.

There are those, however, who have expressed the opinion that any woman would be a better leader than any man; remember Sally Field’s rant during this year’s Emmy Awards that “if mothers ruled the world, there would be no (expletive) wars in the first place”?

Field is by no means the first person to express such a sentiment. Many people, including some candidates themselves (remember Pat Schroeder?) said that women had qualities that, by their very nature, made them better leaders than men.

Those qualities included more rational thinking, more empathy for the people who would be helped or hurt by government policies, better communication skills and an ability to stay calmer and think clearly during a crisis.

Empathy isn’t a word that’s associated with Hillary Clinton, however. In addition, her temper is legendary. Former aides and White House workers during husband Bill’s presidency talked of frequent shouting matches, and the retribution she could bring against the culprit of any slight or crime against her or her husband, whether real or imagined.

Clinton is clearly intelligent, but at times betrays a paranoia that borders on the Nixonian. She frequently plays the victim, most recently accusing the press of being kind to Obama while attacking her at every turn. And we can’t forget the famous 1998 charge that she and Bill were victims of a “vast right-wing conspiracy” that was being perpetrated by the media — that’s the radical left-wing media, don’t you know.

Meanwhile, Obama is the best communicator to come along in a long time. He’s as smooth and eloquent as they come. And we haven’t seen him worked into a swivet over anything yet. He exhibits a calm that some say gives them confidence that he’ll feel their pain, as it were, and offers rational, well-thought-out answers to the questions and issues he’s faced so far.

It would seem, then, that if you’re looking for a candidate who exhibits the best qualities attributed to a woman, those qualities are most likely to be found in Obama. If, on the other hand, you want a Democrat who’s a tough-as-nails, take-no-prisoners kind of leader, then Hillary’s your man.

It seems to me that Hillary has earned the right to be called Senator Hillary Clinton rather than Mrs. Hillary Clinton.

  2. MARANIE Says:

HILLARY SUPPORTS KNOW THAT THE PRESS HAS DEMONIZED HER CONTINUALLY ESPECIALLY MSNBC WHILE GIVING OBAMA A FREE PASS. THERE HAS BEEN NO INDEPTH REPORTING ON HIS BACKGROUND OR HIS TIES TO CHICAGO REZKO WHO IS UNDER FEDERAL INDICTMENT. NO REPORTS ON HIS VOTES IN THE ILL. SENATE, NO TALK OF HIS ASSOCIATION WITH LOUIS FARAKKAN. NOW THERE IS A YOUTUBE VIDEO BY A MAN LARRY SINCLAIR ABOUT OBAMA USING COCAINE IN 1999. ALL THESE THINGS NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED AS DEEPLY AS HILLARY HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED. SHE IS MUCH MORE EXPERIENCED TO BE PRESIDENT!

Isn’t it great that the Liberal press is eating one of it’s own. I love it. Who would have thunk it ? By the way, Hillary has NO experience. To say otherwise is delusional. It’s just like the goofs who keep saying fences don’t work. You Hillary people need to get a new line, the folks are not buying the experience delusion. HMMMM President McCain, kinda rolls off the tongue don’t it? Haaahhahahahaha

Obama is the pre-packaged “New & Improved Flavor” Presidential candidate PRODUCT - being hyped and pushed by GE and its subsidiaries, along with Westinghouse and its subsidiary CBS, while slamming the Clintons all day, every day. (Assisted by…CNN/FOX/ and a lot of newspapers, radio and media dependent on advertising.)

GE is the 2nd largest corporation on the planet.

Obama is in with the Nuclear Industry: Excelon Corp of Illinois has been one of his largest contributors from his entry into politics to the present. Excelon is the largest nuke operator on the planet;owns Con-Ed of NY; more nukes in Illinois than any other state.

GE, Westinghouse, Excelon and other companies are planning to build 29 new nuclear power plants. Their owned and influenced “News” media are selling the Obama Product because Obama is in favor of Nukes.

In 2005 Obama Voted FOR the Cheney Energy Bill (H.R.6) which enabled the nuke industry to make its Plans to build 29 new nukes by guaranteeing taxpayer payback of any nuke loans that default. (No nukes were built for the past 30 years because the banks wouldn’t loan the money — too risky)

Obama Voted for the bill, despite the fact the Congressional Budget Office rated the risk of default on the nuke loans at 50% or greater. Does that sound like good judgment to you?

The New York Times has several articles about the nuke plans, with a map showing all 29 locations.

Clinton voted AGAINST the Cheney energy bill and said her energy plan does not include nuclear.

“Its about the future; turn the page?

Nope. ts about Turning the page back to the past. Obsolete nuke power plants, the most expensive kind and centrally controlled power, instead of inventing new, clean, green, decentralized, inexpensive energy.

An ad campaign has already begun on the TV media to re-package and rename nuclear power plants as green and clean, for everybody too young to remember the 1970s anti-nuke movement and all the bad news about nuclear energy.

Don’t be taken in by the ad campaigns; Google ‘nuclear waste dumps’ and read about the hundreds of billions of gallons of nuke waste at the Hanford, Wash. dump; 140 tons of plutonium stored at Rocky Flats, Colo.; Barnwell, S.C.; leaking into groundwater and rivers; plutonium released into the air around Denver from 500 instances of fires at Rocky Flats; stored on-site at every nuke reactor in America, presenting hundreds of potential “dirty bomb” targets for terrorists.

Is it true that Obama takes no contributions and no money from registered federal lobbyists?

Yes. It’s a lawyerspeak trick of speaking a small truth covering up a big lie.

He doesn’t take money from REGISTERED FEDERAL lobbyists.

He DOES take money from STATE lobbyists, unregistered lobbyists, and the wives, husbands, law partners, aunts, uncles and cousins of registered federal lobbyists. He gets money from the same big corporate donors as any other candidate.

Obama’s campaign finances are involved in the prosecution (by Patrick Fitzgerald) and trial of his friend of 20 years, Antoin Rezko. Some of the funds allegedly extorted by Rezko went into Obama’s campaign coffers. Curiously, Iraqi power plants and fraud are also involved in Rezko’s trial. (Google: Obama -Rezko- Alsammarae-Auichi- IRAQ POWER PLANTS)

GE and the same wealthy people who sold the “new and improved, vanilla flavored” presidential PRODUCTS: Reagan and Bushes 1 and 2, are behind the massive ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN to sell you OBAMA.

At the beginning of this campaign season a large majority of voters were looking forward to electing Clinton. Then Obama stepped in and started the dirty campaigning that has created the DIVISION he so hypocritically decries. Obama played “the race card” so he could win in South Carolina. He was caught red-handed playing that race card, but the media blamed it on Clinton, even though they all knew they were pushing the Big Lie.

With nearly ALL the mainstream media pimping for Obama and slamming, smearing and lying about the Clintons, it is truly amazing that enough voters have seen through the media-created Obama “movement” for Clinton to still be in the race.

The only way a very small minority can control a very large majority is to divide and conquer, exactly the same Republican strategy of deception they have successfully pulled for most of the last century and all of this century, so far. . .

GE, the nuke industry/wealthy have hedged their bets, and they will get billions of your money via 29 new nukes if either Obama or McCain is elected president.

Ladies and gentlemen, sads and moms, buy nothing GE and Westinghouse are selling - not Obama, not a washing machine, a dishwasher, 29 nuke power plants, or a garbage disposer, because there is no garbage disposer for radioactive nuke waste. Do not allow them to poison the earth and your children anymore.

  5. Lisa Says:

Hillary is a veteran campaigner - 3 presidential campaigns, 3 gubnatorial campaigns, 2 senatorial campaigns - so there’s no doubt she knows how to talk big. But what is the big hole is her “experience” card is: What have you done in the 8 years you’ve been in office? Notice how she never points to actual legislation in any of her speeches or ads? Good for Tim Russert calling her on the 200,000 jobs she promised New York.

Look at the character and temperament of Hillary when she’s feeling just the stress of a debate the other night - and now think about what she’d do in a live situation. She doesn’t genuinely respect those with opinions other than her own. She’s a bully - she likes to call it a “fighter” - she fights dirty - she can’t be trusted. She lies - she’s keeping her actual schedule under wraps so there can’t be any fact-checking on her real schedule while she was First Lady. Remember how she requested the FBI files of Republicans during their first year in the white house? Google “The clinton chronicles” or the “video Hillary doesn’t want you to see” - learn the Whitewater scheme was really about. Learn about Johnny Huang - who was placed in the White House after the Chinese Government gave money to the White House. (Ever make the connection between Hillary being a former Walmart lawyer and the amazing growth in China’s imports under the Clinton administration).

As for being the person you want to answer the phone - Bill (and Hillary since she wants to claim that experience) ignored the call when the World Trade Center was bombed in 1993 by the same people who did it in 2001. He ignored it when two embassies were bombed in Africa. He ignored it when the Cole was bombed. The military who served in the White House can testify to the scorn that both Hillary and Bill showed them during their time there - at first they were even asked if they could not wear their uniforms while on duty there!

That stained blue dress was the least of the Clinton scandals.

Hillary has a lot of experience - it’s just the kind that I would not want to see repeated in the next 8 years.

  6. Leslie Wells Says:

    Job Application for Hillary…Incomplete.

All voters please require she finish this ASAP and PRIOR to receiving future primary votes. Submit the following immediately:

    1. Prove Transparency: Release Income tax records

    2. Document Foreign Policy Experience—
    A. Substantiate your claim to having effected Northern Ireland Peace, and that you “threaded the eye of the needle” in China.
    B. Explain why your foreign policy meetings played a MUCH more significant role than any of the principals. Tell why these accomplishments were not described in your book? Your foreign visits are less than the record indicates. Defend your inaccuracy.
    C. List all 3:00AM crisis phone calls and describe other international crisis interventions for which you were responsible. How will we be assured you will not mock or insult foreign opponents as you do your election opponent when you loose control? Why do equate being a tough fighter with anger, rage, and sarcasm? Are you capable of developing your show of strength through the power of words so that your style will be less schoolyard bullish and more diplomatically defensive?
    D. Please check if your foreign service includes the following positions:
    Secretary of State__
    Ambassador__
Military liaison__ Diplomatic Corps__ Military Service__ Military Command__
    Foreign Service officer__
    Employee of the UN__
    E. While in the Senate, name all or just one Foreign Policy legislation you authored in the past 8 years.
    F. Submit all treaties you wrote and accords that you signed.

Submit All White House and Presidential library First Lady Records that verifies your 35 years of experience domestically and abroad.

    3. In 25 words or less describe why you supported NAFTA and now why you don’t, why you failed at achieving universal health care for 15 years as First Lady and Senator, why as a member of Wal-Mart’s board you did not support labor unions nor scrutinize their foreign made goods that carried a “Made in the USA” label.

    4. How will you separate yourself from people and organizations that are associated with sexual harassment and sexual victimization of woman in the workplace? What will you do to protect interns on the Hill and in the White House?

  7. Jose Says:

GE makes the mini-gun, and it is a thing of beauty, so there is no way that GE could be an evil enterprise. Nothing makes music better than the Vulcan 7.62mm GAU-2B/A mini gun rocking off 300 round bursts. We should have 29 new nuclear power plants coming on line every 6 months. It is the best way to generate power and we need it. One scarey post.
